Right now there is a war underway in the middle of Africa, in the democratic republic of Congo, and more people have died there then in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Darfur Combined. People are saying its the most deadliest conflict since WW2. Within the last five years more then 5 million people have died in Congo, and the numbers keep rising. The most frequent targets of this hidden war are women, and the weapons used to the destory them, their families, and whole communities, is rape.  In the last ten years in Congo, hundreds of thousands of women have been raped and most of them gang raped, some even captured and held prisoner to those of the rapists. The vitctims range from anywhere to three years old, all the way to age seventy-five. To understand the war in Congo, you have to go back nearly a decade, when the genocide in the neighboring country Rwanda claimed nearly a million lives, and some of which spilled over into Congo. Since then, the Congolese army, foreign blackened rebels, and home-grown militias have been fighting each other over power, and congo, which has some of the worlds biggest deposits of  gold, copper, diamonds and tin. The UN was called in, and today their mission is one of the largest peacekeeping operation in history. Still, War keeps up in Congo, leaving people to flee their homes, taking what they can, in hope of finding a new and safer refuge. Over the last  year, more then 500,000 people have been uprooted, a fraction of them make it to camp grounds, where they depend on UN aid to survive. It seems that more and more wars keep breaking out in Africa, and although the UN helps to provide survivors with food and shelter, they provide no actual solution, for the survivors in Congo, Or Darfur, these civilians are helpless, homeless, and yet they still find hope somewhere in their heart. Hopefully one day the U.S. will help the people in this world who really need it, before it is to late.
