I realized after writing my page on being addicted to Secondlife, alot of people were searching the wordpress engine on “Husband addicted to Secondlife.” So I am creating a post for this subject. Let me first say, I am not an expert on Secondlife, and nothing in this post is based on facts that I have found. Secondlife is a virtual community where people from all over the world come together to explore, communicate, design, and build. Alot of people use this game for sexual exploration or to fufill their sexual needs. I know from personal experience it is easy to become addicted to Secondlife, and not know what to do, but I do know that if you are addicted to a game, a drink, anything, that is because something is bringing you back. And In the case of your partner playing SL ( short term for Secondlife) He or she might be invovled in another relationship online, Or into sexual fantasies they are to afraid to reveal to their real life partners. If I was in a relationship, and my partner was spending a large amount of time on SL, I would consider the possibility of them having an online relationship with another person. If infact you know this is not the case, and they have created or designed a thriving buisness on SL that makes a real life income, you may want to consider explaining to your partner about limiting your hours as if SL were an office. Creating a schedule where they would only work from 9 to 5. There are many ways people could become addicted to SL, no matter what reason or way, the main focus is to get that person to first cut back on their time from the computer, and to show them Real life has more to offer then spending hours in a pixel world. – Feel free to comment this with questions, I would be happy to answer you back.

Many people have coping mechanisms, and some, are self destructive. By self-destructive, I mean self inflicting, for example ( obessive drinking, drug abuse, overeating, starvation, self mutilation, and bulimia). There are alot of people in this world with these type of destructive coping mechanisms, that truly rely on these mechanisms to maintain the stress that goes on in their everyday life. Theses problems or “Coping Mechanisms” become addictive in order to deal with stress, and sooner or later hard to resolve. I have delt with some of these problems through out my life, and until recently realized how to go about resolving them. I believe when you become dependant on a coping skill, you can’t imagine your life without it, the thought is psychically and mentally agonizing, and even though you might already know it may be a destructive skill, you continue to rely on it anyway, because it creates the illusion of helping to eliminate your problems, when truthfully, it only adds to it, when knowingly you have become dependant on something that may not be good for you. I think alot of people want help when they realize how destructive they have become, and sometimes seek help in professional counseling etc, but I believe they expect the problem to slowly fade or even disappear after seeking help or realizing the issue. Unfortunantly, thats not the case. I went to numerous therapists, hoping they would help me resolve my problem, when really, despite the fact that you “talk” about your problem, you arn’t doing anything about it. For example ( Jane might be an alchoholic therefore she goes to a therapist and talks to the therapist in hope of finding the answer to her problems, yet she still comes home at night and drinks her alchohol of choice to clear her mind of the issues she has, because she has yet to find the answer in therapy. ) The truth of the matter is, the only person that can help Jane is Jane. And when she is truly ready to over come her issues, she will put down the bottle, and confront her problems. Waiting to find a solution won’t get you anywhere, but knowing the solution is inside of you, and that you have the power to move on and do better things with yourself, is all you need to start anew.

(Note: Most information used in this post was from a documentary seen on 60 Minutes.)
Right now there is a war underway in the middle of Africa, in the democratic republic of Congo, and more people have died there then in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Darfur Combined. People are saying its the most deadliest conflict since WW2. Within the last five years more then 5 million people have died in Congo, and the numbers keep rising. The most frequent targets of this hidden war are women, and the weapons used to the destory them, their families, and whole communities, is rape. In the last ten years in Congo, hundreds of thousands of women have been raped and most of them gang raped, some even captured and held prisoner to those of the rapists. The vitctims range from anywhere to three years old, all the way to age seventy-five. To understand the war in Congo, you have to go back nearly a decade, when the genocide in the neighboring country Rwanda claimed nearly a million lives, and some of which spilled over into Congo. Since then, the Congolese army, foreign blackened rebels, and home-grown militias have been fighting each other over power, and congo, which has some of the worlds biggest deposits of gold, copper, diamonds and tin. The UN was called in, and today their mission is one of the largest peacekeeping operation in history. Still, War keeps up in Congo, leaving people to flee their homes, taking what they can, in hope of finding a new and safer refuge. Over the last year, more then 500,000 people have been uprooted, a fraction of them make it to camp grounds, where they depend on UN aid to survive. It seems that more and more wars keep breaking out in Africa, and although the UN helps to provide survivors with food and shelter, they provide no actual solution, for the survivors in Congo, Or Darfur, these civilians are helpless, homeless, and yet they still find hope somewhere in their heart. Hopefully one day the U.S. will help the people in this world who really need it, before it is to late.

Today, Teens are drinking more then ever, and alcohol has become the drug of most teens choice. Annually, about 5000 youth under the age of 21 die from motor vehicle accidents, unintentinal injuries, homicides as well as suicides, that invovle underage drinking. According to the data from the 2005 Monitoring the Future study, an annual survey of U.S. youth, three-fourths of 12th graders, more then two-thirds of 10th graders, and about two in every five 8th graders have consumed alchohol. And when teens or “youth” drink they then to drink heavily, often consuming four to five drinks at one time. In 2003 the average age of first use of alcohol was 14, compared to about 17 1/2 in 1965. Some people who started to drink before the age of 15 also reported alcohol abuse at some point in their life. How do you know if your kids are drinking? Most of the time, kids drink in the most obvious places, friends houses, a innocent slumber party, or a supervised school dance. ( In My Opinion) If your child has started to drink, they will be more likely to try other risky things then a child who hasn’t drinken. i.e. ( Street Drugs, And Percription Medication.) If you know your child has tried alchohol with his or her friends, instead of getting angry ( which is the inital and pratical reaction) sit down with the child and ask what made them want to do this, curiousity, stress, pure pressure, or cause they thought it might be cool. The best way to get close to your child if you know they are hiding something from you, is to not scold them, but try and understand them. Teens and Kids these days drink for numerous reasons. Recently, I read a book that helped me to better understand underage drinking and my issues with drinking, highly recommended by me and therapists around the United States, ”Smashed” By Koren Zailckas. Over all, Alchohol abuse is getting worse each year, and most cases are seen in young adults and teen, rather than in adults who are legally able to drink. Make sure you know what your child is doing. It could save their life.

Plastic Surgery. Where do I begin. It is Surreal. Unbelievable. Scary. Amazing. Just recently on August 4 of 2008, I went for a consulation and a Procedure all in one day. I had liposculpture, which is a “gentler” form of liposuction. Although you are awake for the entire procedure. The only way I can describe it is, If a woman gives birth to a child, and then decides to have another one, its because she forgot how painful giving birth to the first one was. Which is true, if you experience pain, your mind defends itself by erasing the experience from your memory. I believe America takes Plastic surgery way to lightly. Surgery is serious, any surgery, Cosmetic or otherwise, And over 100,000 americans get plastic surgery per year, it has become the norm for us, it is talked about with women the same they would talk about going to get their manicure and pedicure, some are so far into it, they have actually become addicted to it. My experience was enlightening and at the same time scary. The results were beyond delightful, but afterwards, when you think about the risks that come along with the surgery, is it really worth risking your life to enhance and prefect your nose, or your stomach, or your butt, or your breasts? Im not sure..

Through my bouts of depression, I learned how the small things in life really do count. The everyday choices we make, make a difference in not only our week, our month, but our entire life. Being diagnosed with depression, I tend to have alot of negative & sad thoughts through out the day, so in my process of learning to make better choices, I chose to think positive about everything, even at the most “Down” parts of my day. Also, everyone tends to have something they dont particularly “love” about themselves, and so everyday, before I leave my house, I look in the mirror and remind myself that I am me, and I should, and will love myself for being me. And although you might not think right then that you automatically feel that much better about yoruself, In the long run, you will start to believe it. I know there are times where I get so stressed out I feel like I’m gonna blow. And Ive realized these are the moments where you need to be by yourself. I believe one of the most important choices in life is to take time for yourself, to hydrate your body and mind with the energy it needs to thrive on. The little things in life really do count the most. Because over all, it makes up life period. If you enjoyed reading this post, and want to know about more ways you can make better choices for yourself, I suggest you look up the author Alexandra Stoddard, She has over 25 books published on self improvement and although I haven’t read all of them, the ones I have read are worth while.

Binge Eating, A fairly new disorder, also referred to as compulsive overeating. Some reachers believe it is the most common of the eating disorders affecting millions of Americans. Smiliar to Bulimia Nervosa, those with compulsive overeating or binge eating, frequently consume large amounts of food while feeling a lack of control or shame over their eating. However, this disorder is different from belimia nervosa because people with binge eating disorder usually do not purge. People with compulsive overeating eat wheather they are hungry or not, and eat well past being comofortably full. If left untreated the consequences can become life threatening. This disorder often leads to obesity which is resposible for as many as 300,000 deaths per year, or other serious life threatening eating disorders, such as belimia nervosa and anorexia nervosa. Those who suffer from binge eating disorder are also at high risk of substance related disorders, and serious psychiatric conditions, including depression, anxiety disorder, and panic disorder. Studies have found that people with binge eating disorder maybe find it harder then other people to continue in a weight loss treatment. In addition, they may be more likely to regain weight quickly. This is some imformation about Binge eating, and the affects it can have on the binger. If you know of a binger, or are a binger yourself, Psychiatric treament would be a good step in seeking the help the binger needs in order to begin the recovery process.

Depression, Depression is the thing that comforts you after you get fired from a job, because really, you didn’t deserve to be there anyway, depression is the thing that secludes you from the world, because your not good enough to be apart of it. Depression is the thing that allows you to sit on the sofa day in & day out, gorging yourself with food to the point where your so full you can’t feel anything but the sharp pains in your stomach. Depression is something you ultimately create but cannot destroy because you allow it to control you. Depression is the thing that kills. Is it in you?
